April 2022 Ridgewood Water Update

~Ridgewood Water Update~

April 2022

Dr. Steven Clarke/Wyckoff Bd. Of Health President:

I had an extensive conversation with Mr. Richard Calbi, Director of Ridgewood Water regarding questions many Wyckoff residents have had in regard to the 2022 Drinking Water Update (2022 First Quarter) that was recently mailed out to Ridgewood Water customers. https://water.ridgewoodnj.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/RW-PWSID-025100...

For the sake of brevity, I will bullet point the information for our residents.

  • Ridgewood Water recently received a $2.8 Million grant. https://www.tapinto.net/towns/ridgewood/sections/government/articles/vil...
  • The project will have two wells as well as treatment for PFAS (PROA and PFOS), which are contaminants that leach into the water system from many manmade products. They are not naturally occurring. The location will be just to the left of Speedway gas station on Goffle Road (red house at the end of Ravine). This will provide water as well as PFAS treatment to the towns of Wyckoff, Ridgewood, Midland Park and Glen Rock. Construction should start by August 2022 and completion around June 2023. The $2.8 Million grant will pay for the entire project.
  • In June 2022, Ridgewood Water will complete a treatment plant on Rt 17 by Franklin Tnpk. in Ridgewood. That plant will also feed the Ridgewood Water towns clean water.
  • Summer 2022 will see two additional plants going online.
  • Passaic Valley Water will come online this year and will provide more than 3 million gallons per day of PFAS-free water
  • January 2023 Ridgewood Water will break ground on four (of twelve) of the largest water plants which will be completed by February 2024. Of the four new plants, there will be two plants in Wyckoff, one in Midland Park and one in Glen Rock.
  • Beginning 2024, Ridgewood Water will be approaching 100% PFAS-free water delivery to our residents

PFAS have been manufactured and used in a variety of industrial processes and consumer products since the 1940s. They have also been used historically in certain firefighting foams, principally at airfields, military facilities, and fire training facilities. They are found in water-proof clothing, stain-resistant coatings for upholstery and carpets.

Ridgewood Water customers will receive ongoing communications per DEP requirements to each water user until the entire water system is brought back into compliance.

Residents always encouraged to contact Ridgewood Water at [email protected] to gain answers to any questions/concerns they may have.
