Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Bureau’s mission is to protect lives, property, and the community by promoting fire safety awareness and reducing fire risks. We achieve this through inspections of commercial buildings, enforcing fire safety codes, and addressing all complaints received promptly. By educating the public, implementing proactive prevention measures, and collaborating with local communities, we strive to ensure a safer environment for all.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is also responsible for the origin and cause investigation for all fires that occur and work in coordination with other departments and agencies on any serious or suspicious fires.

Fire Prevention Bureau is also responsible for inspecting single and multi-family homes prior to change of ownership or tenants. This inspection is to ensure the next occupants have the required safety measures in place to minimize fire risks and protect residents. The inspection focuses on compliance with the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, which ensures the presence and proper function of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and fire extinguishers.
