Fire Safety Permits
Under the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, a Fire Safety Permit is required before commencing certain hazardous activities. These activities are categorized as a Type 1,2,3 or 4 permit. These permits are occupancy- and event-specific and apply to a wider range of activities than most people may initially consider.
Common events and activities that typically require a Fire Safety Permit include, but are not limited to:
- Public Gatherings (e.g., festivals, large events, parades)
- Specialized Occupancies (e.g., temporary structures, tents, or stages)
- Hazardous Activities (e.g., use of flammable or combustible materials)
- Flame Effects and Pyrotechnics at public events
- Outdoor Cooking and Barbecuing at large-scale events
- Use of Fireplaces or Open Flames in certain settings
