Business Registration and Information
All businesses must be registered with the Fire Prevention Bureau to comply with NJ State Uniform Fire Code and township ordinances. Businesses are required to pay annual registration and permit fees as outlined by the township ordinance and the NJ State Uniform Fire Code.
If a business is classified as a Life Hazard Use, it will be registered directly with the State of New Jersey. Life Hazard Use businesses will be billed directly by the state for their annual Life Hazard fees.
Businesses will be inspected on an annual, bi-annual, or quarterly basis, depending on the use classification of the business. After each inspection, if the business is found to be following the NJ Uniform fire code and township ordinances with no violations, a Fire Safety Certificate will be issued. The certificate serves as proof of compliance and is often required for various business operations, including licensing and permits.
All buildings, including businesses, are required to have a Knox Box installed per township ordinance and NJ Uniform Fire Code. The Knox Box provides emergency responders with secure, quick access to building keys in the event of an emergency, ensuring that they can enter the building without causing unnecessary damage.
